Carbohydrates such as beans, rice, tortillas and potatoes accompanied with rich fats of cream, cheese, avocado and veggies with a splash of fresh salsa are among Jessica’s favorite foods.  “I like the healthy version of Rice-A-Roni®,” she chuckles, unable to pinpoint one favorite meal.  Yikes, oh no!  What do you mean?  I thought dairy was bad?  I thought low-fat was healthy?  Aren’t we supposed to be monitoring our carbohydrate intake?  You might be thinking these thoughts, but Jessica has a life-long knowledge and understanding of food in a very personal way.

facebook is like ice cream

The cravings feel the same.  Maybe the mouth doesn’t water quite as much when logging into Facebook, but both Facebook use and ice cream consumption leave some of us with a strong urge or desire to get more.  Whether the hand cups a cone or a mouse, whether it taps against the track pad or the crispy lining, the sweetness of social media and a cold creamy dessert fill us with desire.  While both seem satisfying, they leave us with a sense of false fulfillment and pain.

have mercy on me

The carpet was soft, squishy, like jello pudding oozing through my toes.  Not a chocolate pudding, but vanilla.  The carpet was vanilla.  And I danced, danced and sang on my vanilla pudding carpets.  I used to want to be like The Judds – Naomi and Wynonna.  To be together with your Mom forever – that would be the life, I thought.  What would it be like to sit next to your mother, her guitar in one hand, strumming the strings with the other?  Or maybe one hand holding the mic and the other tapping her lap.  Or one hand softly rubbing my back, the other following.  Ah, a mother’s company – what a gift for Wynonna.  For now, my twin sister would have to do.
